... was founded in 1918 as the American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC). In 1928, the AESC became the American Standards Association (ASA); this name (or at least the abbreviation) is best known outside the USA through its standards relating to photographic film speeds. In 1966, the ASA was reorganized and became United States of America Standards Institute (USASI). The present name was adopted in 1969.
